Don’t Be Fooled by Conservative Businessman Michael Breyer

Many of you in the 19th Assembly District are having your mailboxes bombarded with completely untrue “hit” mailings paid for by conservative businessman Michael Breyer, Phil Ting’s opponent in the campaign for state Assembly.

Please don’t be fooled. This unprecedented level of attack is funded by Breyer himself. He has already given himself nearly $600,000 dollars to fund these baseless attacks. (Breyer’s company draws its profits from many big corporations, including at least one tobacco company, so expect even more political lies before Election Day).

The simple facts are the mailings are completely untrue. Breyer falsely claims Phil lowered the property value on a property because it was owned by a friend. That did not happen. First of all, the property value was lowered by the independent Assessment Appeals Board. Second of all, nearly 40,000 San Franciscans saw their property assessment lowered in just the last two years, because values in many neighborhoods went down. And finally, Phil Ting himself never gets personally involved in any individual case, a policy he put in place the day he took office.

Breyer is clearly desperate. He lost the primary by more than 30 percentage points. Now he is trying to buy the race with his own money, funding completely baseless attacks.

Virtually every single group to take a stand in this race supports Democrat Phil Ting, including every newspaper to endorse, the Sierra Club, Attorney General Kamala Harris, State Senators Leland Yee and Mark Leno, Assemblywoman Fiona Ma, the Democratic Party, California teachers, police, nurses, firefighters and hundreds of others.

Breyer has done this before. His spending on so-called “independent” expenditures in the mayor’s race drew the scrutiny of the Ethics Commission. Please don’t be fooled by his untrue attacks.
